'We have intention to play better football' - Saints coach reveals New Orleans' 2024 trade deadline plans

The New Orleans Saints need to get back on the winning side of the ledger in Week 8. They'll face a gritty Los Angeles Chargers team that wants a win quite badly after a frustrating, disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.

Looking ahead, Saints head coach Dennis Allen is not thinking too much about the trade deadline at this point. He understands that his team's performance over the next two weeks will decide how they can attack the deadline.

This year's NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday, November 5th, at 4 p.m. ET.

Saints don't plan on selling right now

According to Dennis Allen, the focus is not on buying or selling at the 2024 NFL trade deadline right now. They have to zero in on playing better football.

"We don't have any intention to (sell). We have intention to play better football."

Coach speak? Yes, probably a bit. At the same time, it shows that Allen believes that they have the talent in the room to dig themselves out of this hole.

Their recent injuries and defensive inefficiencies have created a five-game losing skid, and there's certainly more pressure on Allen to turn the ship around. If New Orleans loses a couple more games in the coming weeks, the ship will have sunken already. There won't be any saving it.

Regardless, the trade deadline does not seem to be an overly active time for the Saints this season. It normally has not been over the past handful of seasons due to tight salary cap restraints in New Orleans.

Buying a high-priced trade target does not seem very likely, considering they now have less than $2 million in cap space currently after the Alvin Kamara extension.

We will see if the Saints decide to trade away a couple of veterans at the deadline if their woes continue. Only time will tell.
