Jon Hamm may be best known as the brooding Don Draper on “Mad Men,” but in real life, he’s a self-proclaimed Bravo superfan who can’t get enough of the drama. In a new interview, Hamm, 54, revealed his love for the reality show “Southern Charm” — and why its cast of chaotic gentlemen reminds him of his own younger days. From teasing Craig Conover to mourning his split with Paige DeSorbo, Hamm has become a go-to source for hilarious Bravo commentary. And apparently, his wife, Anna Osceola, is the one who pulled him into the Bravoverse in the first place.
Why Jon Hamm Can’t Quit ‘Southern Charm’
Hamm didn’t hesitate when asked about his favorite Bravo show. “Southern Charm” — the Charleston-based series starring Shep Rose, Craig Conover, and Austen Kroll — has his heart.
“I really like it, mostly because it’s about the guys, and most reality shows are about the women,” Hamm told W Magazine. “‘Southern Charm’ is about these three (expletive), glorious dummies bumbling through life. You want to hit them in the head and also give them a hug and tell them everything’s going to be okay.”
“They’re all younger than me,” he added. “Watching them stumble reminds me of a lot of dumb (expletive) I did. So, it’s like, oh God!”
This isn’t the first time Hamm has commented on the cast. While speaking on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live,” he reacted to a moment from season 10 when Austen said he was scared of Craig’s temper. “I mean, grow up,” Hamm said. “How are you scared of that guy? He is who he is, they all are. He’s got a finely honed sense of saying something that I think he thinks will be received in a dramatic way.”
And yes — Hamm was emotionally invested in Craig and Paige’s romance. On CNN’s New Year’s Eve special with Andy Cohen, Hamm said, “I gotta pour one out for Craig and Paige, my goodness, end of an era.”
