Kirk Cousins started the 2024 season with the Atlanta Falcons looking strong, but things quickly fell apart.
The 36-year-old threw for over 3,600 yards and 19 touchdowns, but also had 15 interceptions. His struggles got worse late in the season, with just one touchdown and eight picks in his last five games. After four straight losses, the Falcons benched him for rookie Michael Penix Jr. With Cousins set to make $27.5 million in 2025, some believe he may want a trade, but his recent play and contract make teams think twice.
LeSean McCoy Questions Whether Kirk Cousins Is Worth the Risk for the Steelers
LeSean McCoy, a former NFL running back and Super Bowl champion, didn’t hold back when discussing the idea of the Pittsburgh Steelers going after veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins. Speaking on FS1, McCoy said, “You’re getting no production with expensive payments,” adding, “Cousins is an expensive payment that’s not gonna be productive. His days are over.”
McCoy also questioned why the Steelers would invest in a pricey veteran instead of starting fresh. “You’re gonna get an expensive quarterback that’s not gonna be productive, so why not get a rookie that’s not as expensive?”
McCoy’s comments reflect a growing concern among fans and analysts who believe the Steelers need to think long-term rather than making a short-term gamble on a declining veteran. With Cousins coming off a rough finish to his season and carrying a hefty contract, Pittsburgh may be better off finding a younger, cheaper quarterback to build around for the future.
