Will Bobby Return for '9-1-1' Season 9? Why Angela Bassett Is Teasing His Story Isn't Over

Peter Krause left the show at the end of season 8 — but there could be more in store for the actor.

As 9-1-1 wrapped up an explosive season 8 earlier this month, fans did not expect for the beloved Station 118 captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) to die in a tragic manner. But according to a major player on the show, there's always a chance that the character's journey isn't necessarily over.

When Angela Bassett (who plays Bobby's widow Athena Grant Nash) appeared on Good Morning America on May 19, she was there to promote her new film Mission: Impossible — the Final Reckoning (out May 23). But naturally the conversation turned to the future of the ABC drama (as season 9 premieres in the fall of 2025) ... including how Bobby's presence may continue to be felt onscreen.

As Angela joked to Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan, Bobby's funeral (seen on the May 1 episode) featured a closed casket and possibly implied that his story may continue on.

"Listen — it was closed," Angela teased in a clip posted on YouTube. "So, he may be up to things ... I don't know."

Angela Bassett talks 'Mission Impossible' and '9-1-1'
Oh my goodness — what does this mean? As far as fans know, Bobby's heroic death to save his team members from a hazardous bio lab was his untimely end. But Angela's recent comments are adding fuel to the already circulating fan theories that Bobby is alive. It's also possible that the late Station 118 captain may appear again in flashback form for Angela's character or anyone else on the show.

Even though we'll have to wait and see how exactly Bobby's presence will be felt in future seasons of 9-1-1, it's clear Peter's impact on the show had an effect on Angela. As she shared on Instagram back in April 2025, his legacy on the series is one that won't soon be forgotten.

"For eight seasons, this kind, funny, compassionate, talented actor became not only my trusted colleague, but also a dear friend," she wrote in the caption at the time. "#peterkrause as #bobbynash helped to introduce @911onabc to the homes and hearts of fans around the world. I know this is hard for all of you. It’s hard for us, too."

"Peter’s Bobby Nash will be missed but his character will never be forgotten," she added. "He is forever a part of our family. We should all give Peter a lot of love as he expands beyond 'the 118' and into all adventures that await him. Love you, my friend. Athena will never be the same."

And now we're crying again!
