Are they truly endgame?
Adam and Chelsea kissed to celebrate their reunion on the Thursday, March 13 episode of The Young and the Restless. The last two people who could have objected, Victor and Chloe, gave their blessing. So, we have to ask: Where do we go from here? And why would we want to go there?
Happily Ever After
Adam (Mark Grossman) is happy. Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) is happy. Connor (Judah Mackey) is happy. Sally (Courtney Hope) is happy. Billy (Jason Thompson) is happy. Victor (Eric Braeden) is OK with it, and Chloe (Elizabeth Henrickson) just doesn’t care anymore. So, yay, there is not a single obstacle to Adam and Chelsea living happily ever after. So what happens now?

Nothing But Trouble
Soaps thrive on crisis. A front-burner story means angst and heartache. Adam and Chelsea currently have none of that. Sure, maybe Connor’s OCD will flare up again. And there is a lot to be said for a couple banding together to deal with their beloved child’s illness. But that story only works if viewers already love the couple in question, and are overjoyed to see a story for them that doesn’t include fighting or cheating or breaking up. Adam and Chelsea are not that couple. Sure, they are loved by some, liked by others, but most viewers are either indifferent or downright hostile to yet another Chadam reunion.
Pit Stop
So unless this is just a breather on the way to sending them both into better stories – and better love interests – it feels like Adam and Sally are doomed to be relegated to the back burner, where they can worry about Connor, and about Victor’s business, and about Billy trying to take down Victor’s business. Which is a shame because both deserve better. Grossman and Egan are strong actors who can handle real, dramatic stories, not sitting around recapping other characters’ adventures. And it doesn’t look like they will get those, as long as they are paired with each other.
