Are Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD back on NBC tonight?

The franchise has been inconsistent with its recent network schedule.

One Chicago is in a crucial period. The franchise took most of March off, and has been part of NBC's Wednesday night lineup intermittently throughout April. Furthermore, the network has yet to put out renewals for any of the three shows, despite the fact that they are nearing the end of the 2024-2025 season.

Well, we may not have renewals in hand yet, but we do have new episodes. Finally. Chicago MedChicago Fire and Chicago PD return Wednesday, April 16 with some of the most notable and tense episodes of their respective seasons. Med will provide a slate of tense cases for its doctors. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) will be forced to make a decision that could cost her patient their life, while her ex-boyfriend, Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell), returns to Gaffney after a lengthy hiatus.

Chicago Med and PD will continue ongoing stories

Given the various dynamics between Asher, Ripley, and Dean Archer (Steven Weber), who seemed to have a breakthrough last episode, we anticipate that there will be some difficult conversations taking place in the episode, titled "Together One Last Time." Chicago PD will also pick up the thread from an existing storyline.

Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy) will dish out orders to Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), despite the latter making it clear that he isn't comfortable following his superior's game plan. The promo sees Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) get pulled into the mix, and perhaps even cave to Reid's orders, given that the Deputy Chief has dirt on him.

The element we're most excited for in the PD episode "Demons," though, is the burgeoning romance (or at least, close friendship) between Voight and ADA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues). Chapman already made it clear she has feelings for Voight, and we are curious to see how their decision to team up against Reid will bring them even closer together.

Chicago Fire may lose multiple characters

The big story of the night, however, will be on Chicago Fire. Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) makes his first return since leaving the show in season 12, and he will be forced to investigate an accident in which a fan favorite firefighter was nearly killed. We're not only looking at the potential death of a Fire veteran, but the firing of another high ranking character due to the perceived carelessness that led to this potential death.

We are very concerned for the Chicago Fire cast, and we somewhat bad for Sam Carver (Jake Lockett). Normally, the character's return would be a big enough deal to power an episode, but the stakes are so high, and the consequences potentially so dire, that it feels as though Carver will get lost in the shuffle of the story. We will find out.

Chicago MedChicago Fire and Chicago PD air in succession from 8-10pm EST on NBC.
