“That Made Me Sad”: ’Chicago P.D.’s Kim Burgess Actress Reveals the One Thing She Hopes Future Seasons Will Rectify

Strong friendships have been born in Chicago P.D. throughout the years, as some duos feature great chemistry. However, some characters barely interact outside of work.

While Kim (Marina Squerciati) is a great asset to the team, she hasn't been lucky with friendships, especially with other female characters. Squerciati hopes that the show will address this issue in the coming seasons, especially with the addition of a new female character to the team. "I didn’t get a relationship with Tracy [Spiridakos]. I have talked about that in the press. That made me sad," she told Deadline at the ATX TV Festival. "I would love to see a female relationship blossom on this show. I really love Toya [Turner], and she’s a fresh voice on the show. I also feel like [Kim is] a bit of a mentor to Cook (Turner), and I’d love to see that grow as well," Squerciati added.

Chicago P.D. Seasons 10 and 11 saw Kim work with Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) in numerous instances, and they developed a rapport. However, after Torres' grave mistake that nearly cost Kim her career, Squerciati doesn't predict great things for that relationship. "I think the relationship with Dante is gonna be a bit damaged. I don’t know that she’s gonna be in the friendship circle for a while, and I’d love to see that and see where it takes us," she said. Showrunner Gwen Sigan also said that Kim will approach the job differently in Season 13, especially after the Torres debacle. "She was really just trying to have someone’s back. She was just trying to have her teammate's back, and so to see the consequences of it, I think it will have an effect on how she moves forward," the showrunner teased.

Relationships Will Be Fraught in 'Chicago P.D.' Season 13

The upcoming season will explore the aftermath of Reid's (Shawn Hatosy) campaign against Intelligence. Everyone was rattled, and they will be reassessing their relationships with each other and the job. "I think a lot of them are [going to be looking at the job differently]," the showrunner said. Torres will be trying to stay on the thin and narrow line after the prison scare, Burgess will be scrutinizing her actions, especially regarding her coworkers, and Voight (Jason Beghe) will confront the illusion of change he has been living in. Even Chapman (Sara Bues) will have to decide if Voight and Intelligence are people she wants to enable or be associated with.
