New York Rangers defenseman Chad Ruhwedel was seen wearing a non-contact jersey at practice on Thursday.

During Thursday night’s preseason game against the New Jersey Devils, Ruhwedel crashed hard into the boards and skated his way back to the bench in obvious pain.

While he played the remainder of the contest with no signs of a serious injury, Ruhwedel was limited during today’s practice.

It’s a good sign that the veteran defenseman is still on the ice and did not miss practice. However, the fact that he couldn’t be a full participant two days after the injury occurred certainly leads to some questions.

The Rangers have already lost Ryan Lindgren for a few weeks due to an upper-body injury, so the last thing they need is another defenseman out.

The 34-year-old is still fighting to make the opening night roster as every moment up until when Peter Laviolette makes his final cuts is critical for him.
