Former Dancing With the Stars pro Mark Ballas and his wife, BC Jean, gutted their home kitchen to their exact specifications.
“When you come in, you can see we redid everything,” Ballas, 39, said in a recent TikTok video, showing off the newly renovated space. “Here are the cabinets, open shelves [and] we added this vent hood. We got Viking appliances.”
Ballas and Jean, 38, took out the kitchen’s navy-and-white cabinets, beige stone backsplash and dated appliances. They installed a marble counter and new lower cabinets in a pale green shade, which had golden knobs and handles. The upper cabinets were replaced by open wooden shelves to store bowls and other dishware.
“We ripped it to the studs,” he explained. “[We] added this big farm sink, got these taps from Devol, I believe.”
Ballas and Jean also replaced the existing square tile backlash with a more modern and sleek white subway tile. There’s also a special amenity for a VIP member of the family.
“Here’s a fun thing,” Ballas quipped. “We added this for Hendrix.”
On the side of the shelving unit surrounding the double-door Viking refrigerator, the couple added a place to store their pet dog’s food and water bowls.
Ballas and Jean also installed a “morning station” on the other side of the fridge, where they can make coffees, smoothies and more.
“Thanks for hanging out,” he concluded his video. “That’s our kitchen tour!”
Ballas and Jean have been together since 2012 after meeting through mutual friends. He proposed in 2015, and the pair married one year later.
Ballas and Jean, a musician, expanded their family in 2023. Jean gave birth to son Banksi Wylde in November 2023. Banski is the couple’s rainbow baby after Jean previously suffered a miscarriage in 2022.
“As we get closer to the arrival of our little one, I can’t help but think of the one we lost a year ago. We found out we were going to be parents a couple of days before [the] last season of DWTS started,” Ballas wrote via Instagram in October 2023. “I felt a new kind of energy, excitement and creativity, but during one of our check-ups we received the heavy news that our little one’s heart had stopped beating.”
He added, “We’ve both been through some things in our lives, but this was a different + unique kind of sadness that was pretty soul-shattering to be honest, but we later learned how common it actually is. Seeing my wife’s strength through this experience is something I’ll never forget, and will always be in awe of. It was a challenge to be in rehearsals and create dances during this time, but ‘the show must go on.’”
