The Vegas Golden Knights took out the Minnesota Wild to reach the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and their reward is getting to face Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton is one of the better offensive teams in the league—the Oilers are averaging a league-best 4.5 goals per game in the postseason—so the Vegas defense will surely be tested.
But the Golden Knights aren't backing down from the challenge. Vegas defender Brayden McNabb spoke about the Oilers' depth and how they used it to take down the Los Angeles Kings in the first round.
“There’s different players," he stated. "I think their depth is better, especially against L.A., they contributed, their bottom-six [forwards]. But we like our depth. It should be a great series with lots of high-end talent on both teams. It should be a lot of fun.”
This series offers both sides a chance to make a statement, and these teams know each other well. It's also a rematch from a playoff series two years ago that saw the Golden Knights win in six games.
The Oilers have much more experience this time around (they made it to the Stanley Cup Final last season before falling to Florida in seven games) and they'll be banking on that to wear Vegas down.
Game 1 is going to be crucial for both sides, but home-ice advantage could prove key for Vegas. The Golden Knights have been one of the better teams on home ice this season.
