Jalen Hurts hit with disrespectful ranking among top NFL quarterbacks

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts showed the NFL last year why he should be in the conversation with the elite players at the position, but continues to receive disrespect.

Hurts has led the Eagles to the Super Bowl in two of the last three years and won his first Super Bowl MVP in February, when the franchise won its second Super Bowl title in team history. The 2024 playoff run was historic as the Eagles outscored their opponents 145-77 in four games.

The catalyst behind the team's success last year was Hurts' ability to protect the football and accuracy while getting it done on short-yard runs. That appears to not be enough for people to have Hurts rank ahead of elite quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts direspected in QB rankings following 2025 NFL Draft

Bleacher Report writer Brad Gagnon shared his top 10 quarterback rankings after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded. Gagnon had Hurts barely crack the top five, ranking fifth behind Allen, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow.

While Gagnon does credit Hurts as a sure-fire top five quarterback, there are questions as to whether Hurts would be a different quarterback without the supporting cast he has.

"He may be far from your typical franchise quarterback, and it's fair to wonder just how effective he'd be without such a dominant supporting cast, but Jalen Hurts has become one of the most uniquely productive offensive players in the sport."

"The reigning Super Bowl MVP was also at his best when needed most, posting a 112.8 passer rating in the fourth quarter of one-score games and leading a Philadelphia offense that averaged 36.3 points per game in the playoffs."

"Throw in the fact that Hurts played an instrumental role in getting the Eagles to two recent Super Bowls while compiling 20 career playoff passing/rushing touchdowns to only three interceptions, and he's a no-brainer top-five QB entering 2025."

Hurts is 46-20 as a starting quarterback and has lost just 10 regular-season games in the last three years compared to his 10 losses in his first two years. He has also had a completion percentage above 65% in the previous three seasons.

People are quick to discredit Hurts because he has one of the best offenses in the NFL around him, and he isn't asked to throw the ball as often. Other Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks like Mahomes and Tom Brady usually had great supporting casts around them and have not received the kind of criticism that Hurts has.

Hurts isn't a prototypical modern-day quarterback who will throw for 5,000 yards, but he's a winner who will always find ways to win games which is all that is important at the end of the day.
