Joseph Woll makes sensational glove save to end wild game vs. Oilers

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltender made a save of the year candidate to secure a wild 4-3 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Woll would stop 45 Oilers’ shots, but there was none better than this glove save as the horn sounded on Oilers’ forward Corey Perry:

Woll was sensational against the Oilers, displaying his athleticism throughout the 60-minute track meet. Saturday’s game, in what some, especially around these parts, dubbed as a Stanley Cup Final preview, was intense from start to finish. While the Maple Leafs may have found the back of the net early and often, Woll was tested from the opening puck drop, stopping 14 shots in the first period alone.

The 26-year-old Woll was making his 11th straight start since the beginning of 2025, and against the Oilers he showed to many he still has lots left in the tank with his 45-save performance. With Anthony Stolarz close to returning, Woll’s work load should be decreasing in the coming weeks. Having a two-week break during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament will also serve the Leafs’ netminder well.

The Maple Leafs were outshot 48-28 against the Oilers, meanwhile the Leafs’ finished the night a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play. The Oilers went 0-for-2 with the man advantage Saturday night, thanks in large part to Woll. He was the Leafs’ best penalty killer, along with defenceman Chris Tanev, who played 26:37 on the night, and led the Maple Leafs with four blocked shots. Tanev was joined by the likes of Conor Timmins, Nick Robertson, Jake McCabe, Morgan Rielly, and Auston Matthews, who all had at least two blocks on the night.

It was a team effort to secure the two points against the Oilers on Saturday night, but without the stellar performance from Joseph Woll, the Maple Leafs would have been run out of the building.
