The Cincinnati Bengals traded for running back Khalil Herbert in an attempt to add some firepower to a banged-up backfield. Cincinnati’s Zack Moss was injured earlier in the season, leaving Chase Brown to take on most of the load.
Herbert, who hasn’t been playing much with the Chicago Bears, should be a solid fit. In the final year of his rookie contract, Herbert will be owed just over $555,000 for the rest of the season, according to Over The Cap.
The total yearly salary for this year is $1.05 million, and he is in the last year of his rookie contract. The Bears originally selected him in the sixth round in the 2021 NFL Draft and have paid him a little over $500K this season.
The Bengals dealt a seventh-round pick for Herbert, so the cost wasn’t much, as the back hadn’t played in a few games after staying behind both D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson in Chicago.
Herbert had a career-best 611 rushing yards last season and ended up with three scores on the year as well. The Bengals will have in the ballpark of $8.5 million in cap space following the deal before he hits free agency next offseason.
