The New York Giants drafted Wan’Dale Robinson on the second day of the 2022 NFL Draft. While the team envisioned a specific plan for how to use the Kentucky star, his rookie campaign didn’t even make December before he tore his ACL. Fast forward 18 months and a full season, and Robinson may hold the secret to restarting an anemic New York Giants offense for 2024 and beyond.
Wan’Dale Robinson led Giants in 2023
The New York Giants as a team finished in the bottom four of several key areas on its offense in 2023 en route to finishing with double-digit losses for the sixth time in seven seasons since their 2016 playoff appearance. The quarterbacks that had to see time for the Giants completed just 338 passes between them. The Kentucky alumnus Robinson caught 60 of them, a team-high mark. Despite the 60 catches, he only hauled in one touchdown all season, in the team’s Week 9 loss to the Raiders.
While the Giants did go out and draft Malik Nabers with the sixth selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, the incumbent Wide Receivers the Giants still have on hand, Robinson included, will still play a part in 2024’s offensive plans for the Giants. For Robinson, his role could wind up bigger than many think.
Wan’Dale Robinson’s 2024 Offseason So Far
To say the least, Robinson has gotten off to a good start during the team’s Mandatory Minicamp. Speaking after the fact to reporters, he took particular notice of some marks in camp he had never hit before:
“I feel like I’m kind of back to myself all the way. Having a full off-season to train and not have to rehab, so it was a really big deal to me just to be able to go back home and do everything I was able to do and get back to myself.”
Coach Brian Daboll added the following:
“Yeah, he’s a good football player. We ask him to do a lot of things. I think he’s got really good quickness, and good speed, and a very dependable player for us.”
Robinson’s 5’8 stature creates a potential opportunity for OC Mike Kafka to use Robinson as a secret weapon to take some amount of pressure away from the presumptive #1 Wide Receiver and Rookie of the Year candidate in Nabers.
All Wide Receivers presently on the Giants roster need to take a step forward of any kind in 2024 to prevent their poor form in 2023 from keeping the team held down and risking the jobs of their Head Coach and General Manager.
