Sabres Open to Dylan Cozens Trade Ahead of Deadline: Report

The Buffalo Sabres continue to be one of the most active teams in the rumor mill as the NHL trade deadline approaches.

Sabres Open to Dylan Cozens Trade Ahead of Deadline: ReportAccording to The Fourth Period's Frank Seravalli, the Sabres have been receiving significant interest in several of its key players, particularly center Dylan Cozens, while also making calls themselves.

In a report published Sunday at The Fourth Period, Seravalli revealed that the Sabres "continue to scour the trade market" trying to retool their roster.

"Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has been active making and taking calls on a number of his players, with centre Dylan Cozens at the forefront of discussions," Seravalli wrote.

In the latest update of Seravalli's "Trade Watch List," published on Jan. 19, the insider listed Cozens as the seventh most-valuable player expected to be traded ahead of the deadline.

Cozens, 23, keeps popping up in trade rumors with Seravalli naming the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Vancouver Canucks, and Chicago Blackhawks as teams linked to the young forward.

As reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman during the Jan. 10 episode of the "32 Thoughts" podcast, Detroit nearly acquired Cozens before the NHL’s holiday roster freeze in December, making it plausible for a trade to eventually happen.

"It got coughed up to me that they believe the Red Wings were looking at Cozens," Friedman said. "There was a time that a couple of people said to me they thought it was close."

Cozens, however, isn’t the only Sabres player drawing attention. Seravalli noted that defensemen Bowen Byram and Owen Power have also garnered interest.

Power is in the first year of a seven-year, $58.45 million deal while Byram is set to become a restricted free agent this summer once he completes his two-year, $7.7 million contract.

The Sabres, sitting dead-last in the Atlantic Division with an 18-26-5 record, are nearly a lock to miss the playoffs for a pro-sports record 14th consecutive season, tying the NFL's New York Jets.
