Top head-coaching candidate doesn't even give the Saints a chance, chooses AFC team as next destination

The New Orleans Saints head-coaching search continues to swirl. One of their leading candidates is now off the board.

Top head-coaching candidate doesn't even give the Saints a chance, chooses AFC team as next destination

Aaron Glenn agrees with Jets

The former Saints assistant and latest Detroit Lions defensive coordinator has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach for the New York Jets.

Glenn was one of the most sought after candidates of the cycle. He and former Lions OC Ben Johnson were both expected to get HC jobs, and that came to fruition this week.

Johnson became the Chicago Bears' head coach on Tuesday.

As for New Orleans, it's another tough pill to swallow for the organization because they had notable and legitimate interest in their former assistant and player in Glenn.

Saints didn't get a 2nd interview

The Saints interviewed Glenn virtually last week. They never got the opportunity to interview him in person this week. His interview was scheduled for Thursday, a date pushed back due to the inclement weather in New Orleans.

All in all, it's a rough look for his former team to not get another shot to sell their opening to him. Glenn finished his playing career with the Saints and spent time on Sean Payton's staff. The connection to the org was real.

Regardless, he felt that the Jets were his best opportunity and took it. New Orleans must now pivot to other options that include Mike McCarthy, Anthony Weaver, Mike Kafka, Darren Rizzi, and Joe Brady.
