The Focus Features drama Anemone stars Oscar winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis in his first big screen appearance since Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread in 2017. The movie features an impressive cast, including Walking Dead universe alum Samantha Morton, who portrayed Alpha, leader of the Whisperers.
According to Deadline, Anemone is the directorial debut of Ronan Day-Lewis, son of the movie's star. It is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 3 and a nationwide release beginning October 10. The father-son duo penned the script, and Brad Pitt's Plan B is producing.
Daniel Day-Lewis and Morton are joined by Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green as the movie's main cast. The story showcases family bonds experienced between fathers, sons, and brothers. These relationships are explored through personal journeys and generational conflicts.
Deadline also noted that Anemone will release against Lionsgate's Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, A24's The Smashing Machine, and the Channing Tatum led Roofman from Derek Cianfrance.
Other roles starring Samantha Morton
The BAFTA-winning Samantha Morton is well known for her role as Alpha in AMC's The Walking Dead. Her character led a group of skin-wearing, hostile survivors known as the Whisperers. She died at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in season 10. Morton reprised the role in the third episode of TWD spinoff, Tales of the Walking Dead.
Morton is currently filming The Entertainment System Is Down, a satirical black comedy from Ruben Östlund. Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl also star. The story follows passengers on a lengthy flight who, when the entertainment system malfunctions, contend their boredom.
The actress has also been cast in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey along with Walking Dead alums, Ryan Hurst, Corey Hawkins, and Jon Bernthal. Based on Homer's same-titled works, the story tells of King Ithaca and his journey home after the Trojan War.
