Atlanta Falcon Kyle Pitts has struggled in the NFL since his stellar rookie season.
The former Florida Gator and fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft had one of the best first seasons for a tight end in league history, tallying 1026 yards, the second highest ever.
He went down midseason his second year with a torn MCL, and has not managed to replicate his initial production, totaling 1625 yards over the last three seasons. He is set to play this season on his fifth year option, and will be a free agent after.
Recently, it was reported by Adam Schefter that Pitts hasn't been practicing in voluntary OTA's due to a strained muscle in his foot. This has been another reason for trade rumors to swirl.
Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by Atlanta following the 2018 draft, took to twitter when this news broke.
"They do this right before they trade you," Benkert wrote, "He's gone in my opinion."
The Falcons are most likely not looking to extend Pitts, as they look to continue their rebuild under head coach Raheem Morris. Other teams will be looking to take a chance on Pitts, hoping to recreate the success of his start in the NFL.
Atlanta will not want to just let a talented player walk after the season, which means he will have to be dealt before the trade deadline. What team is willing to take the risk or give up assets for a player whose trajectory has been hampered by injuries remains to be seen.
